Food find: Cock flavored soup mix
You never know what Amy might bring home from a grocery shopping trip.
One time it was Goya Pasta Pumpkins. Today, it was this packet of Cock Flavored Soup Mix from the folks at Grace Foods (GraceKennedy Limited) of Kingston, Jamaica, found in the ethnic aisle of the Kenosha Woodman’s store.
It cost her 79 cents, and was listed on the receipt as “GRACE CARIB SOUP.”
The back of the pouch reads:
Use Grace Cock soup to add body & flavor to your chicken, shrimp or beef soup, or to your steamed fish, chicken or rice dishes. Grace Cock soup can also be enjoyed as a delicious broth without the need to add other ingredients.
The recipe for Chicken One Pot Curry using “1 packet GRACE COCK SOUP MIX” sounds pretty good. I’m not sure where to get “1 large cho-cho,” but maybe Kenosha Fresh Market carries them.
The ingredients list for Grace Cock soup is mostly grain products (like wheat flour), plus sugar and MSG. No cock is listed, just “natural and artificial flavors.”
There are 80 calories per serving in the two-serving packet, five of which are from fat.
