Since we were near Sauk City, Wisconsin the Saturday before last, I thought it might be fun to look for the original Culver’s Frozen Custard & ButterBurgers Restaurant opened by George Culver and his family in 1984.

It wasn’t difficult to find the site (it’s at 716 Phillips Blvd), but the former A&W restaurant has been replaced by a newer building which looks just like the more than 390 other Culver’s restaurants in 17 states.

This particular Culver’s, however, has a special stone monument at the north end of the outdoor dining area. It reads:

Monument marking original Culver's Frozen Custard Restaurant at Sauk City, Wisconsin

The George Culver family opened the original Culver’s Frozen Custard Restaurant on this site July 18, 1984.

The current restaurant opened April 27, 2000.

This monument is a tribute to the Sauk-Praire area residents who have assisted with Culver’s growth across the United States.

You can learn more about Culver’s at Wikipedia.

Go ahead and call me a restaurant chain or roadside marker nerd if you wish — but just know that another guy was waiting for me to finish so he could take his own photos.
