Heart-shaped potato

Last night, Amy and I watched President Obama on The Late Show with David Letterman, where he was given a heart-shaped potato by audience member Mary Apple of Independence, Missouri, who brought the same potato to Letterman’s show two years ago.

Today, upon opening a new bag of Wisconsin russets, Amy happened upon her own heart-shaped potato — and this one was actually bigger and more heart-shaped than the one that garnered so much attention.

Should we sell it on eBay, alongside the five other heart-shaped potatoes and potato chips currently up for auction?

You know, holding onto a heart-shaped potato for two years seemed funny when it was someone else. But now that we have one of these babies ourselves, I’m beginning to appreciate the sentimental value, and I’m reluctant to just let it go.
