  • California man arrested for trying to sell daughter, 14, for beer and meat — The Salinas Californian reports that Marcelino de Jesus Martinez, 36, of Greenfield, is suspected of arranging for the girl’s marriage in exchange for “$16,000, 100 cases of beer, several cases of meat, and other items.” According to NBC Los Angeles, he compounded this error by “then calling police to complain that her buyer had not paid off his debt.”

  • Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s bicycles stolen from Carter Center — The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the bikes were reported stolen on January 2. The dealer who gifted the Carters with the cycles suspects that by now, “They’ve probably been sold for a $10 rock of crack.”

  • His life in a tailspin, Indiana financial adviser reportedly stages crash — The New York Times has one of many accounts this morning of Marcus Schrenker, an experienced pilot who seems to have abandoned his plane, sending it to crash in Florida, before making a brief appearance in Childersburg, Alabama carrying “goggles that looked like they were made for ‘flying.’”
